What are transferring modifications?

.

Transfer solutions are assistive devices or adaptions to facilitate easier transfers in and out of a vehicle. This usually refers to the process of moving from a wheelchair or other mobility aid into the driver's or passenger's seat of a vehicle. To facilitate this process, various assistive devices and adaptations are available, such as transfer boards, swivel seats, and handrails, which can make transferring in and out of a car safer and more manageable.

These adaptations aim to enhance the independence and ease of individuals with mobility issues, allowing them to navigate in and out of vehicles with greater comfort and minimal physical strain.

Who can benefit from Transferring Modifications?

Transferring in mobility cars primarily benefits individuals with physical disabilities or mobility challenges who use wheelchairs or other assistive devices. We work with individuals facing challenges such as:

 Spinal cord injury

 Paralysis

 Muscular dystrophy

Any issues impacting lower limb use

... and various other mobility impairments.

What is the process of getting a Transferring Modification in my vehicle?

1. Quote and Funding

We’ll begin by sending you a personalized quote based on your vehicle and wheelchair/scooter setup. If you have NDIS funding, we’ll organise an Occupational Therapist Vehicle Modification Assessment to verify and allocate funds for the modifications. In most cases, vehicle modifications come under the Capital Supports budget, which means your quote will also require formal approval. If you don’t have NDIS funding, we’ll discuss alternative payment options.

2. Book an Appointment

We will then schedule a time with you to assess your vehicle to make sure the hoist/ramp will be effective for you. In this initial meeting we will discuss placement, left or right, we will provide our professional recommendation, while also taking your preferences into account. This is also when we will show you the demonstration vehicle to ensure you are happy with the product before you purchase it.

3. Ordering the Parts

If you choose to move forward, we’ll order the required parts. These typically take around 2 weeks to arrive, as they are sourced from Europe.

4. Installation and Engineering

Once the parts arrive we will contact you to arrange the installation. This usually takes 2 - 3 days. Some vehicle modifications are required to be checked by an engineer to ensure the modifications meet the safety standards, if this is the case this will be done in this 2 - 3 days.
